We’re Conscious About the Sea
Reducing the negative impact the boating industry has over the Mediterranean is our number one commitment.
We’re conscious about how boating can negatively affect the balance of our delicate flora and fauna. Therefore, we decided to donate 10% of our profit to conserve our precious sea. Unfortunately for the Med, there has been little in the way of sailing regulations to preserve the Mediterranean while enjoying one of world’s most beautiful seas.
There’s one seagrass called Posidonia that is said to be the lung of the Mediterranean, and it’s quite clear why: Posidonia is the principle source of oxygen for the Mediterranean and brings shelter to millions of species of sea-life.
A study from the Mediterranean Advanced Research Institute (IMEDEA) and the BBVA Foundation, states that the Mediterranean Posidonia population absorbs half a million tons of CO2 each year, and produces 20 litres of oxygen per square metre every day.
The largest organism on earth is a Posidonia plant that measures more than 8km in length. It’s been sitting on the bottom of the sea for more than 100,000 years between Ibiza and Formentera, and it’s suffering some serious damage.
The amount of Posidonia in the Balearic Islands has been drastically reduced over the years, in big part caused by irresponsible anchorage.
Our aim is to preserve this essential organism. We’re donating 10% of our profit to a program that actively conserves the Posidonia population, we’re also working on an interactive map that shows the areas where captains can safely anchor their boats without harming this vital seagrass.
By booking through Sailero.com you’ll be contributing to the Posidonia Project, preventing this damage from becoming irreversible.
Thanks for helping us keep the Mediterranean healthy.
